Fit Mom Dream Come True

When you come from a family with four kids, how do you get time with mom all to yourself?

Tell her you want to run a 5K.

That's what one of my daughters asked of me six weeks ago. If she thought that would get her special treatment, well, she was right.

We logged one to two training runs a week. We started with one mile and slowly made our way to 3.2 miles, just over 5K distance. At first she took up to three "walking breaks," but by the time race day arrived, she accomplished her goal, which was to finish the 5K without walking.

She got a medal (and rice crispy treats, which she wanted after the finish line) and I got a new running partner.

Does this mean I've arrived as a fit mom? Quit blogging and go to heaven?

I better not get ahead of myself. While we were running this race I told her I knew of another 5K we could run next weekend.

"Um, Mom," she said between breaths. "Let's wait till after I finish this one."

That's just brilliant! Must have made you so proud having her run beside you. Just wondering what sort of pace do you run with her?

Novicemum, we are slow but steady. She ran her 5K in about 36 minutes. She ran another 5K last weekend with her dad and pushed the pace to finish in 35!
